Parents with teens?

Do parents realize how many teens drink, do drugs, and have sex? I know that parents think their teens would never do anything like that but they do stuff like this every week and parents don't even know. I just graduated high school and i know that at least 80% of the kids in my class drank, did drugs, and has sex. Parents need to be more aware of what their teens are doing. Do you think you teen is doing any of this stuff? I bet the majority of you have no clue?

I'm a teenager in my last year of high school, and you're right. I can't believe how many of them drink without their parent's consent. Drugs I'm not so familiar with, and sex isn't a huge problem at my school, but...





Are parents ignorant or trusting? A bit of both, I think.

i am a 19 teenagers, well i drink occasionaly, got drunk few times, i smoke 1-2 ciggarates perday, and i am not addicted to smoking!! i havent smoke now for a week!! cos i have my own control system and i had sex just once!!





but i will not accept if someone say i am spoiled!!





well i am just curious, and i dont harm any one, i have my own conscience for that matter, and yeah i wil never do drugs!!





i dont wanna die or get old and stick with diseases, so its even up to the kids it self, some kids are too depressed to think, but even i cant blame full responsible to them..!!





like you said that many parents never pay enough attention to their kids??





so parents have some partial responsible for this matter!!





like my parents were just to ignarance and never really care what i was or am dealing with, they never ask me that what is the problem with me, or is anything is okay!!

so like sad to say i am alone, and this apply to many other kids!!





but they are just fool enough to let the drug phase or sex, getting pregnant blocking their goal!!





i wanna be success and i study hard, and i am sure i will get it and lead a happy life afterwards, so is it my fault if i smoke or drink or even had sex??

Reply:Sure, there are a lot of teens out there that are doing drugs and having sex and drinking... There are also a lot of teens that aren't. I know my kids aren't. I am at home every afternoon when they get off the bus. They are not allowed to roam the streets of our community aimlessly. In fact, I usually take them where ever it is that they need to go. I do not drop them at the theater, or at the mall. I know all their friends ....





for many years I worked with teenage kids .... and I still wonder why they don't engage their heads once in a while. I wonder why they feel the need to risk their lives and futures for a few minutes of whatever it is they get from doing all the things they shouldn't.





I also wonder why it is when our kids need us the most, we are determined to leave them home alone....or free to do whatever. I think as a child gets older they need their parents involvement in their lives to increase not decrease. It drives me crazy when the school district preaches a team mentality to educate....and yet as soon as the kids hit 9th grade almost all school to home communications stop. Things that make you think.....hmmmmmmmm
Reply:I have heard that kids as young as 12 are giving each other oral sex..


most often this is occuring in homes where the parents are not home when kids are done school.. this is why it is sooo important for parents to put kids first ahead of $.. one parent NEEDS to be home for the kids... and talk to the kids.. and be involved in their life...


if you want new cars, cell phones, fancy shoes, dinners out. etc.. DONT HAVE KIDS!!!!

Reply:I agree, when I was in high school, none of my friends parents had a clue what their kids really did. Yea they knew they drank, maybe even smoked pot, but if they really knew everything that they did. And alot of kids who were real bad into drugs, their parents didt think they did anything. My parents had no clue. Well of course that was along time ago!!


But drugs in high school even junior students are alot worse than people think. Kids are starting to do drugs in 5th grade now.
Reply:Yes, it saddens me that the parents of the "worst" kids don't see what's right in front of them, meanwhile, the parents of the kids that don't do such things are constantly making false accusations.
Reply:I'm personally glad that my parents have given me the boundaries and curfews they have. I don't think I would do any of those things (I might have, but I doubt it) but my parents keep a close eye on me--not waaaaaaay over-protective and they don't call me a million times while I'm out with friends but they are very strict about my curfew (at 11:00 and I'm 18). People ask me how I can stand being home so early, but personally I don't mind. My parents love me and have reasons for their rules. I live under their roof and I obey out of respect and love for them. :D
Reply:I am a Parent of 4 kids.....19, 17, 11, 10. I did know when my daughter first drank, and then I told her, if she really thought it would be cool to drink...and thought that she just HAD to join in with her friends, then she needed to call me and I would come and get her....no matter what! I didn't want someone who had been drinking driving her home, or herself for that matter. She did not do any drugs, she had plenty of chances with her friends, but she chose not to. My 17 year old son on the other hand....I knew the first time he did anything...I'm a nurse in an ER...we see a lot....he was only 11 the first time he got 'high' on weed. I got him to stop for a few years...then when he was 14, it all started over again. I know that he has been drinking, has smoked weed, has snorted atteral, and smoked purple haze. I also KNOW that he got it all out of his system...and hasn't had anything except a beer with his father this summer after putting in 10 hours of cutting down trees and bushes. He even tells me he has plenty of chances...but he just says no because he wants a college hockey career more than he wants to get high. I agree, that most parents have no clue.....when the kids around here need help they call me....I call their folks and give them a safe place to stay for the night.


I for one wish parents would WAKE UP!!!!!!!!!!!!





I also am home in the morning to get my kids up and off to school...and I am home when they get home from school. I know what I was like as a teen......and I was left alone alot! i was left many times for 4 day weekends! I will not do that to my kids!

and i have to agree with you alot including me all this stuff


some parents do not watch there kids they have to work some leave for the weekends or just dont come home.


and there are parents who dont want to even think there kids can be doing it so they push all thought and recognition aside.


and maybe if my parents paid more attention and tried to understand or were there more for me instead of always yelling at me and eachother maybe i wouldnt be doing anything...but who knows everything that happened in my life lead up to all this it wasnt jsut that~
