3 teens go into a restaurant...?

They want to get the all you can eat pizza buffet. It's during the lunch rush and the buffet has been picked clean. They are waiting for more pizza to be put out. After 20 minutes they decide they can't wait any longer so they leave. The waitress calls the police and reports that they left without paying.

The cops go after these teens, one at a time, and force them to return to the restaurant and pay for a lunch buffet under threat of arrest. One teen decides to stand up for herself and refuse to pay for what she didn't eat.

What can the cops actually do? Can the teen file an extortion charge against the restaurant?

3 teens go into a restaurant...?
It comes down to how much time you want to spend dealing with idiots. They are assuming the teens are lying and ate something.

You can take them to court etc. or you can just tell everyone you know they can expect to be treated badly at the restaurant and that the cop is a jerk. I stopped buying things from a store that gave my teen daughter a hard time, told everyone I know the story and poof going out of business sale. Unless someone is an out right criminal, public opinion works better than the courts.
Reply:Once again, love to get the full story. They ate nothing? Had nothing to drink? I find it hard to believe the restaurant called the cops if they ate nothing at all. Not to mention, every all you can eat place near me makes you pay before you eat.

In addition, learn your laws. Its not "extortion" in the least.

What exactly would you like the cop to do? He has a complaintant that says they ate and ran. Odds are they had proof. The cop isn't a judge and jury. He merely makes the arrest.

I highly doubt this "event" even took place, as it makes no sense. What happened to the third girl? Did she or didn't she pay or get arrested? 'cops" went after them one by one? Sure they did. One cop may respond to take a report. You imply this was the crime of the century with cops flooding the area looking for these criminals "one by one" and dragging them in to face Justice. Doubtful.

Looks like you have made up some hypothetical story, for what reason I do not know, other than to get attention. I have no idea. It doesn't add up.
Reply:the burden of proof is on the accuser. don't pay and go to court. use your friends as witnesses.
Reply:yepers
Reply:There are too many business that take such actions. You cen be passive, assertive or aggressive. Passive = do nothing, Assertive is all parties respecting each others rights, aggressive is getting out of hand and taking advantage of another and not respecting others rights.

First try to settle with the issue, don't give up your rights an respect their rights. If necessary; go to court if you must. It it's civil, forget it, if it's criminal, you have a right to be represented.
Reply:Did they have a drink?

I have ordered a drink at a restaurant, and then looked at the menu and not liked anything... I have left... But, of course, I paid for the drink...
Reply:I don't see the problem here or the need for the police. If anything it makes the restaurant look bad
Reply:Consult a lawer or Get a lawer..this resturant is in trouble..
