TEENS ONLY- which of these topics would you rather read about?

ok im writing a teen issue book and i want teens to be able to relate to it and yet want to keep reading. here are 4 different story lines which would you rather read about?

Story 1- a 14 yr old girl named Danni has little self confidence and her and her best friend Megan start dieting. Were Danni’s dieting gradually turns into anorexia.

Story 2- a 17yr old girl name Tatiana lives in a bad neighborhood, with her 4 brothers and sisters. Her grandparent send them money but every bit of it her drug addict parents spend on drugs. Her dad gets put in jail for selling drugs and her mother abandons them. Leaving 17 yr old Tatiana to take care of her family. (based on a real story)

Story 3- a 16 yr old girl named Jaclyn lives in Atlanta, Georgia and attends a party were she is raped.

Story 4- a 13 yr old girl name Kiakara lives with her abusive alcoholic dad. She cuts her wrist to have some kind of control of her pain. Where she meets Emily a new girl in school

TEENS ONLY- which of these topics would you rather read about?
the thing with teen-issue books, as you call them, is they tend to have a plastic feel, like the author doesn't want to write about characters, just a tragedy. books by lurlene mcdaniel are perfect examples of that, plastic characters.

story 1 sounds awesome, but all of them do actually. your anorexic character needs to be an actual person, not just a anorexic person. the books perfect and stick figure do great jobs of personifying eating disorders, so you can look beyond the eating disorder and relate to the girl herself. you said she started dieting with her friend megan. does megan become anorexic as well? how does megan see danni's anorexia? what role does she play as the story progresses?

story 4 also sounds interesting. if you're looking to write a book about depression and cutting, a lot of depressed kids don't have quite such an obvious trigger. so many teenage girls become depressed for much more subtle reasons. to write about abuse and alcoholism you'd need a lot of skills. they're complex issues. on a different topic, i see so many kids around me get depressed. and a thing about cutting- you'll need to draw it really well and delicately. one reason people cut is they're depressed and everything feels flat and dull. pain sharpens their world, throws it into focus, and gives them actual emotions. cutting can make you very lucid. you'd need to really understand how people recover from such things. i'm not saying everyone cuts for the same reason, and i know control is a big part of it. parental abuse is really sad. one of my friends gets beat up by her dad. if that part of it- the abuse and alcohol- is the main part of the book, then make sure to help people relate to her, which i don't think will be a problem. don't ever end a chapter with "and then my dad hit me and in the next chapter it will be next day and all over". begin it with the bad thing, like being hit, and show it end and show her reaction and so on.

story 3 sounds great as well, the tenth circle by jodi picoult deals with rape and date rape, but it's difficult to relate to the main character. the girl gets raped in the very beginning of the story, without any time to get to know her. make sure we get to know jaclyn before the rape. does she tell her family about it? i think you'd need to have more of a plot then recovering from rape.

hope i helped! your books sound like they have the potential to be really powerful and good.

Reply:Me personally, number 2 sounds the most interesting.
Reply:Hm....They all sounds good!

Well, for me, I would read 1, 2 and maybe 3. 4 Isnt really what Id want to read....

Good luck!
Reply:i like them all but in this order

Reply:How are you supposed to pick one? they all sound good to me...I hope you plan to right them all since you have ideas for all of them.

Sorry not a teen anymore, but I still read all books that interest me.
Reply:They all sound great but I would have to go with story 2.
Reply:definately 2...I would read it!
Reply:Number four, because it IS my life.

Except I don't live with my dad. But he is abusive, and alcoholic, and I do cut myself.

And I don't have a "best friend". But I have told one of my friends who is helping me out, so thats good.
Reply:all stories are good just make a series.
Reply:either number 1 or number three. they sounds great so far! keep up the good work!!
Reply:i like the first and seccond the best
Reply:1 because it talks about an issue that has being going on a lot lately...

Good luck =P
Reply:I would go with story 1 and story 4, they both sound so good. story 1 kinda reminds me of this book called "skin". I think both of those would get the most readers.
Reply:All your stories sound like something I could buy my 15 year old sister for her birthday(she's a book freak). I think they all sound good and I just asked my sister which story she think sounds like a book she wouldn't mind spending money on and she said all(can't make up her mind). So I'll go with all.:) sorry but they all sound okay even if I'm not a fan of reading.
Reply:Story 1 %26amp; 3 seemm awesome!

I love stories that are real like that

similar to the chicken soup books..
Reply:story 1 or 3
Reply:Story 1- a 14 yr old girl named Danni has little self confidence and her and her best friend Megan start dieting. Were Danni’s dieting gradually turns into anorexia.
Reply:i like all of them in this order:2,1,3,4 but i think the girl in 2 should find out she is pregnant then try to kill herself or the baby...that would make a good story
Reply:I like # 2 and 3. I would probably buy #2 first. My bff says she likes story 1 and 3.
Reply:i think that i like story 1 or story 4 the best.

i would probably buy story 4
Reply:story three/four sound reall intrestin
Reply:For me, (I am 13) I would choose story 2. Because it sounds SO interesting. Like, it's a survival story.

I am a little worried about story 3, because the rape could be a problem for writing. However, it would be interesting if you had her be VERY quiet and changes personality AFTER the insident. And if she can't decide to tell or not. Actually, this does sound interesting. i would probably read it.

Story 4- This one sounds very interesting too. I think it would be nice as long as theres a happy ending. maybe, she slowly reveales herself to Emily, and emily starts to help and turns Kiakara into a beautiful, intelegent young lady. Also, maybe it could end with Emily's family adopting Kiakara, just like the pair had always dreamed about? Idk. It does sound interesting though.

I don't think I would read story one, because it's so classic. And not much conflict.

I hope this helped. =)
Reply:They all sound like something most teens would read. Especially teen girls. Every teenager just wants to know that there is someone else out there going through the same things they are... even if that other person is a fictional character. I like number 4 the best though!! Sounds like you will be a great writer!
