Should unmarried teens having babies be against the law?

What would you think of a new law that made it illegal for unmarried teens to have a baby? Example: The law says a teen mother must give her baby up for adoption. Or..a teen mother is not allowed to collect Welfare.

i dont think that that is right.. since some people dont exactly wanna have a kid but something happens... but if they were aware that they could get pregnant and did it willingly then i think that they should be responsible...for it ... it should be there choice and their parents choice as to whether they keep it or give it up fpr adoption!
Reply:Its not a legal problem, its a social one. There is no social consequence for being an unwed teenage mother, bring back the "home for unwed mothers" and stuff the girls who get pregnant into them. Make it a social penalty not a legal one.

Reply:sometimes it is just so sad to see how many teens are having children but you know I would rather see them having babies and raising them then hearing on the news about babies being found in the garbage, or in toilets with the umbilical cord wrapped around its neck, or even worse the rise on abortions across the nations because of some stupid law. The point is everybody is entitled to their own life, i agree with the last statement every teenager that has a child should be given MANDATORY PARENTING CLASSES.....everyone makes mistakes, everyone no matter what age.....
Reply:there is nothing wrong with a teen having a child as long as they are not irresponsible and are able to support their child it is just a different kind of life for a teen and nothing wrong with it
Reply:That is a TERRIBLE idea. Do you want MORE babies left in trash cans? MORE babies starving to death? And you want to FORCE young women to give up their child? It would never work. Sorry.
Reply:Only the bad seeds make the news. There are plenty of single mothers who do just fine raising children, even if they are teenagers. Just alike, there are plenty adult women who do terrible jobs raising children. Where do you draw the line between who can and who can't have kids? If a law like that were passed, the next thing you know, we'd be able to throw newborn girls off of cliffs because boys are preferred.

First of all, it's completely unconstitutional as it infringes on many freedoms, and to suggest that a teen mother HAS to give up her child for adoption is an idea straight out of the dark ages. As for welfare, these mothers are often the ones who need it more - I realize that it's a preventative measure, but for the instances it doesn't prevent it becomes a huge burden on a young girl who is already in over her head as it is.
Reply:It wouldn't exactly shock me if you were the same person saying that abortion should be illegal. Such hypocrisy. Let me ask you this-who's going to pay for all these babies in orphanages? Answer-the same tax payers who are paying for welfare. Good grief, Charlie Brown.

Reply:That would be the stupidest law out here if it were illegal for unmarried teens to have a baby. It would also be cruel for them to force her to either have an abortion or give it up for adoption. If that were to happen, the World would have to triple the homes for children that have no parents or even a prospect of having parents. Sure there are alot of young girls that may be getting Welfare to support their baby and I know that we're paying for that, but it's no worse than us paying to support a criminal in prison or a murderer on death roll. Our tax money is doing that! Me myself, I'd rather help support and take care of an innocent baby of a teen age mother that house and feed a criminal or murderer in prison.





Also, I read a statement that roy_mustang made about teens not having the knowledge they need for a lifetime until they hit 18, to me that's a joke. I know alot of people alot older than the age of 18 that doesn't have the brains a teen-ager has. Just because you turn 18 or even older doesn't mean you have a lifetime of knowledge. Get real... I'm not saying that all 18 year olds are naive, but they also have alot of living and aging to do to be knowledgeable. And then again, are we ever that knowledgeable???

I understand that some people have tempered feelings towards young parents but by no means should they have to give up their freedom in any way.


And if they said that a teen mother should not be allowed to collect welfare..for starters thats discrimination and secondly that child would have a TERRIBLE life.

Reply:no, the govt has already gone too far and overly involved themselves in our lives. It is not thier place to say what we do with our bodies or when we should have children. Nature has already told us when we are ready. The major drawback of teen pregnancy is that they do not finish school and do not become good little worker bees for the gdp. You do not have to support or help them but to take thier children and make them criminals is wrong. We need to rethink the role of govt in our lives.
Reply:I think that welfare should be contingent on a tubal ligation. This allows for the occassional mistake and stops cold the majority of the problem people who basically raise the next generation of criminal scum at taxpayer expense.

Sometimes teens make mistakes but it we are mature enough to realize that and feel that we can responsibly take care of a baby then why? should the courts stop this. if we have a the resources needed to take care of baby then why do they want to stop us. being married shouldn't matter because what if you raise the baby and he or she becomes the US president! you never know the potential of that small child!
Reply:I think that sometimes things happen and well those whom it happens to must deal with the consequences. Who is the government to say that anyone should not have children. Children are to some a blessing at any age. The law shouldn't take from those who are too young but those who are abusive and insensitive.

What you are proposing is that a young mother who has been abandoned by the father presumably or for some other reason unwed and alone - who could conceivably have been disowned by her family - have her child taken away from her so that she can collect a pittance as welfare?





My mother and I are and have always been the best of friends - and she has said to me that it is the love and relationship that we share that has made all the pain in her life bearable.

Reply:No---It's unconstitutional to tell a young mother to give up her baby involuntary. It wouldn't happen because it would be consider as a cruel and unusual punishment. The mom has already gone through enough. Humiliation, probably a good *** chewin from her parents, and not to mention labor.


As for welfare there are limits to what u can collect. They are getting stricter on how much u collect, for how long and even go after the father to pay back the welfare. To denied a mother income to provide for her child is cruelty to the child. Would u want to see a baby starving? Would u want to see the baby in tathered clothes or nothing at all?


It is up to parents to talk to their kids about sex and protection. Birth control can be prescribed by a doctor without the parents knowing and they can buy condoms. Kid are just to scare to do it. A mistake can happen because of bad judgement..but it's up to that person who made it to make it better and make it right.


Plus a law like that will cause more teenage pregnancie due to the fact it's taboo. Teens are naturally rebellious and bad things tempt them way too much especially being illegal. Look at smoking, drugs and underage drinking.


If such a law was ever mention in senate I would haul my *** out of this country. The boundries of our freedom has already been overstepped. Let's not make it worse.
Reply:Against the law for the teen...no. Should the teens' parents or guardians be required to go through mandadory parenting classes...YES.
Reply:I am also a child of a teen Mother.....I also find this kind of offensive.....My Mother wanted to join the Army after I was born, but they told her she had to give me up for adoption.....My Grandma was going to take me as my "Guardian", but they told her no.....she had to adopt me out, because they did not provide housing, insurance or benefits to children born out of wedlock....this was 32 yrs ago.....in the 70's where women were babies like they were drinking a glass of water......to think we would have that kind of thinking in this time...is appaling....I was not a Teen Mother, but I suffered 4 miscarriages before I was able to give birth to 2 live children....%26amp; telling someone to give up their child at any age...if they really wanted one...is spiteful, unconstitutional, %26amp; just down right MEAN!.....my sister had her 1st kid at 18.....one cousin had hers at 17 %26amp; another had one at 15......they were not allowed to get on ANY type of "assistance" since their Mothers made too much money.....my sister was able too since she turned 18 right after she found out she was pregnant.....my point is....the government already does that to a point.....they go on the income of the Parents of the pregnant minor child....%26amp; if the Parents make too much money...then the pregnant teen is SOL.....%26amp; MOST insurances wont cover a pregnant teen......So.......just ur idea is ridiculous %26amp; already some parts of it are in play......BUT I think it is very wrong....My Mom %26amp; I grew up together....%26amp; she is best friend....I would be nothing without my Mom...she taught me to be the strong minded, hardworking woman that I am today......

Reply:No, but they should require the teens parents to foot the bill, because not for nothing once they start that young with children and on public assistance, it makes it that much easier for them to continue having more. If You Can't Feed Them Don't Breed Them!!!!!!!!!!
