Depression and teens...?

How come teenagers don't realize that it's normal to be depressed when you are a teen? Because they are getting older they are going through hormone changes. I think that there has been so much emphasis in society that being depressed is abnormal, and that we have to treat it with drugs and what not, that every teen that is depressed thinks that they're mentally disturbed...which of course leads to them being more depressed.

I think this topic should be brought up more often...it's just not the emo kids walking around cutting themselves, but the preppy cheerleader and dorkie band kid that is going through the same thing.

What do you think about teens and depression?

Depression and teens...?
it's normal in western society.

teenagers are s'posed to be like people with

borderline personality disorder.

i don't know about it being normal per se.
Reply:depression is a very real thing!! i dont care how u put it, but a lot of teens and adults need help! medication does work for people who are seriously depressed, take it from me, i was depressed as a teen, and now even as an adult. i take medicine and it really helps, haven't you ever felt depressed? or are you one of the lucky ones who doesnt get fazed by life?? did you grow up in a leave it to beaver episode?? well good for you, dont start spouting what you dont know..
Reply:Ummm you couldn't be more incorrect, though you have an argument from a non-informed standpoint. There is a big difference between hormonal changes and depression. Not nearly all teenagers have depression. They may exhibit some of the symptoms for a short period of time due to mood swings or things like that, but the symptoms pass. Depression is when the symptoms do not pass.
