Ignorant teens?

OK so I'm 17 (from Holland) and for the last 10 years iv grown up in England. Having gone through the English education system i have always had lots of sex education and (having liberal parents) have always grown up believing that sex is a great and healthy thing to have with some you love but you just have to be careful because of all the STD's and STI's and pregnancy





also i have been educated by the media ( Internet,TV etc)





so i wonder when you have teens on here wondering if they are pregnant or how to use contraception i wonder , how can they be so ignorant??? All the information is out there !!





my friends and i have for the last couple of years have managed to hold down sexual relationships without getting pregnant or getting diseases.





How can it be that these teens can get so miss guided and ignorant of the facts of life?

Ignorant teens?
They just don't listen, in some cases, not with everyone, but they think just the Pill with stop them getting pregnant
Reply:If the rest of Y/A's English was as good as yours our educational system would be the best in the world.





And perhaps that's the reason. We are so illiterate we can't even follow the instructions on the packet (of condoms, pills, IUDs etc)
Reply:The information is all there I agree, but if you're not listening it doesn't make a lot of difference.
Reply:Because of several reasons. First of all, in America abstinence education is rather common where they pressure teens into not having sex and avoid advice on safe sex practice.





The second reason is old wives tales. Many girls believe what their mothers tell them. If you have sex your mother can always tell, you can be pregnant and still have your period, you experience pregnancy symptoms almost immediately, etc...





Then there's plain guilt. Many of the girls were probably all "I'm never going to have sex before marriage," and then found themselves in that situation and feel guilty and stressed which can delay their periods and cause cramps and headaches.





Then just ignorance, my school teaches safe sex and abstinent education at the same time, and no one listens. They just believe what they heard from friends (if you have sex in a pool you can't get pregnant, if you do girl on top gravity will prevent you from getting pregnant, the pull out method, and some even believe that oral sex can get your pregnant xD)





Anyways, this is just things I observed and my opinion...
Reply:They don't care. They think if they have a birth control pill and a condom they'll be fine. They think that there not gonna be the one.
Reply:the problem is they do know they play ignorant and they just don't care simple as they think have a baby o its easy wrong its bloody hard work they catch something they don't care just pass it on to someone Else but I think most the problem is they have no respect for them self's or for others but I was like you I always played it safe you cant afford to mess with your health

Reply:well said. I have often wondered the same thing. Its even more scary that some ADULTS dont even know the facts of things like STIs and contraception.
Reply:because they are the sort of people who are stupid, they are a small minority of the country that take a lot of limelight. they think it's cool to get pregnant and be another statistic, i mean, walking into school with a baby is apparently cool :P also, i think there are other reasons, some NOT stupid and are just trying to beat the system. with there being little council housing left, and the house prices so high, some people are actually getting pregnant on purpose just so they don't have to work and get a house.

Reply:The teens that ask these questions about pregnancy just aren't educated or grown up enough to even have sex. I agree with you, they are soo irresponsible, but most teens are, that's the age in life where you learn the most from your mistakes.
Reply:America severely lacks on sexual education and believes in religous teachings.





If they looked at any other country they would realize they do more harm than good with the **** they pull. Honestly 21 drinking age?? INDIA is the only country with a 25 drinking age.


And they are working on REMOVING IT.





Ever heard of prohibition? It caused a rise in organized crime. Only reason Al Capone existed was because he smuggled in illegal drinks.
