Are Teens in todays society in over their heads?

I mean, in yahoo answers and all around us Teens seems to be involved more with drugs, sex, violence. Isn't todays society screwed up.

I am a teen, and i don't want anything to do with all that. Whats going on in todays world. I bet if i was born in a earlier decade things would be so much different.

Are Teens in todays society in over their heads?
It has always been this way, only with technology, this sort of news can be spread faster, and to a greater audience. Teens were always invovled with drugs, sex, violence, only the media never showed it as much before. Just look at the 1970s.
Reply:People are just making bad choices....todays teenagers are fully aware of what can possibly happen if they get involved in sex, drugs or violent acts and they consiously make a choice to do it anyway. sometimes teens arent aware of absolutely everything which is just sad because that means the grownups didn't teach them. this is a problem that has been around for a long time i would think. if you look back at the 60's-80's there were huge drug problems with the teen demographic because they were somewhat unaware and they were influenced to do it cuz they thought it was cool. it will probably still be a problem for years to come because people will always make bad choices.
Reply:Yes, I think today's society is screwed up. Good for you for not getting involved in any of that. You will be glad you didn't later.
Reply:a-lot youth in the 60's (hippies) were pretty messed up as well
Reply:Yes, they are over their heads. The thing is, alcohol, drugs, and sex are all becomming addictions for today's youth, and honestly once they've started I think that you can't force them to stop. We as humans have always had a desire to be part, and the road to addictions starts with other people. First you want to party every night to be with your friends and soon after that it becomes about an addiction. After that its not just some peer pressure kind of deal, its a real problem that many families are not ready to face.
Reply:In the late 60's and 70's is when things got really messed up. I think that the reason that things are so appealing to teens are that way because their parents don't interact with them. I'm 18. I've never done drugs or been drunk. And I encourage all of you out in Aswers that are teens to Stay drug and alcohol free. Remember "No Regrets" Ask your self before you do something "Am I going to regret this?" if the answer is I really think I would then DON'T do it. If it's sorta then don't do it. You have to been able to say for sure No I won't regret this action if I do it Usually it'll help you keep happiness and peace in your life. It works for me. GOOD LUCK fellow Teens!!!!
Reply:I agree too. I`m a teen and I don`t believe that teens especially younger teens are exposed to so much of these things. I am shocked at what we know these days. But so many advertisements and public sources are open for anyone to see. I think that adults need to take better precautions and be responsible as older people to not contribute to the negative side of education.
Reply:Do loose a lot of sleep on this one, you sound like a good kid and have your head on right.

Yes kids today have a lot more thrown at them with out the time spent with a full family around them most of the time. It is fair to say you missed the farming and birthing of animal and the timing of crops, but then you were in on the space age more and infomation is good, if you can process it and apply it too.

Sex, is over rated. If you forget morals and pregnancy for just a min. here and look at the big picture. Sex is meant to be for pleasure and birthing. But with that come a lot of questions and feeling and emosions. If your not ready for it, it is over whelming. Outside of marriage or before your ready for all of it, you will be over your head. the fun pleasure and thrill all put together will still be their when your ready, so why rush it is my though.

As for being born earlier, I think we all wish that at one time or another. Your best day is now, and tomorrow, and your future is yours to make, as it was for me. I tell all of the people I have had under me in life. "you can't have to much education" A four year degree means you will have money for a family and the things you want. Less education means you will have less money, i.e. less of everything money can buy and the lifestyle you want.

Good luck in life and make your mark and then pass it on!
Reply:One idea was they stopped the draft...so men are out in the streets with nothing to do....gangsta rap glorified violence, guns, wearing pants below their butts, being lazy, getting tattoos, getting into trouble...getting girls pregnant and leaving them, copying Hollywood losers, etc.
Reply:Yes the world is very screwed up now compared to when I was little.
Reply:I wish there was something we could do.

Teens who do drugs, are unfortunate because they live in a community where all of these things are their life. Now sex, that's just a temptation. Most unwanted sex is from being drunk, abusive-behavior, or guilt or lonliness. Kids can't help what they do. The other blame is parents. If some parents actually cared for their child, these things could be deducted by so much.
Reply:i agree! what is happening to society? it's great that at least one person is against this.
Reply:You sound like you have a great head on your shoulders. I'm a teen and its sad to see how involved classmates are in things such as sex and drugs........... I have three gang members in at least two of my classes, one has a kid. sad world this is turning out to be..........
Reply:I totally agree with you! It seems like parents have supported those deficiencies by over-praising their kids or by being bad parents. There's really no work-ethic supported in teens and a lot of them expect that they're going to be handed a job and money and everything. By the looks of a majority of this society's teens the country is going to take a nose dive.

Just keep being the smart kid you are and stay away from those things. Don't buckle under peer pressure - if you friends try to press drugs and alcohol and sex on you and you refuse them, at least you won't be dead, in jail or have to live with it on your record. Common sense seems to have completely avoided a lot of the young people of this country. I'm glad you're not useless!
Reply:Yea right.

Believe it or not things were the same in every generation.

Some things now-a-days are a little more dramatic, but in ever past decade, there was teenage sex, teenage parenting, teenage druggies, teenage runaways, parents fought with teens, parents hated their teens ' music, it was all the same.
Reply:It's so sad. I am a teen and I kindof hate the way older people judge our generation. I mean, I am not into anything and theres other people that are and I cannot believe it.

11, 12, 13 year olds having sex? Shouldn't they be playing with Barbies?

I feel sad for alot of teens on yahoo answers.
Reply:I agree with the first answerer. Teens were like that back in the day, too. Btw my GRANDMA had my mom when she was only 18. And my mom who was a teen in the EIGHTIES started smoking when she was like, only 14.
Reply:Depends on their parents. If they are involved, and I mean truly involved, then for the most part, no.

Dads are VERY important, if not the most important thing in a child's life. Don't get me wrong, moms are important too but kids just aren't scared of their moms and, therefore, tend to take advantage of the situation.

Of course, I'm generalizing but I see the difference in my daughters friends who have dads in their lives as opposed to mom only.
Reply:All I can say is that if you are THAT confident that you could change things....I wish I had a time machine. I would send you back.
