Teens in Myrtle Beach?
Hey guys!
Im going on a weeks vacation with 4 other teen girls ( we'll all be 18 except 1 who will be 17) and I need help with a few questions.
1- Should we stay in North or South myrtle beach ( which one is more teen friendly and has more night life)
2- Best places to go (A.K.A where do teens hang out)
or any other helpful hints would be appreciated!

what is a good book for teens specifically teen girls and thier parents to help deal and cope with teen emotions??

they're not exactly how to cope with teen emotions, but they're inspirational stories and such...
they have all kinds. Chicken Soup for the mother's soul, the grandmother's soul, and the teenage soul I, II, and III. :]

What makes some teens kill their own family?
Or each other? On the news there was this teen girl that killed her family because they didn't approve of her boyfriend or something(something to do with her boyfriend).
There have been reports of teens or kids killing their parents.
Or teens killing an outsider because they hate him/her.
What gets them to murder? I'm not saying ALL teens are murderers. It just seems like that teens are more likely to kill than adults.(I could be wrong)
For those with kids(I don't have kids), how do you prevent your kids from growing up to be killers?

Reply:Most people who commit those crimes are people that are anti-social, sorry just what I learned in a psy class, and do not have fantasies of hurting anybody, it's true, my old teacher said, that people have fantasies of hitting somebody when they are angry, or having sexual fantasies other times when not dealing with anger, and this is healthy as it relieves are stress knowing that we would never actually hurt somebody, or engage in a particular sex act, and therefore are healthy people. A lot of peopel who lack that ability end up making up for not having fantasies that involving hitting by actually hurting a person much worse then that when they are angry:
Another reason is each person has a stress breaking part, but most of us know in a healthy way how to deal with something that throws us beyond our mental boundries, and some people never learned those healthy habits, thus, thinking if they, "get rid of their problem." they could have the life they feel that want or were supposed to have had they had their way.

There was an experiment years ago where an adult, in front of a child or was it something on tv, punched an inflateable thing and then the child was seen beating the thing up afterwards to show violence learned.

Teens Abortion in South Africa?
I answere a question on above subject and got an answer from Mirr77- saying I do not know what I am talking about. Mrr77, See in South Africa abortions are free and kids from the age of 10years may go for an abortion and there is nothing the medical staff can do if the teen chooses not to tell their parents (although they do get asked to).
Medical practitioners in South Africa are furious at this because in KZN allone we are having +/- 300 abortions per month. Medical staff are saying that SA teens have no respect for human life. Some hospitals have the same teenager coming for an abortion 2-3 times in one year!!!!! Medical staff is NOT ALLOWED to refuse a teen an abortion!

Is it true that teens,who are both underage,having consentual sex is a jailable odffense?Its kind of a contradiction of two people raping each other. How is that possible?With teens having sex now of days,would that basically criminalise more than half the teen population?

I am 17 and pregnant with my first. I know being a teen mum is going to me hard. I am due 1st October. I am 12 weeks =]. Teen mums how do you juggle work/school with your baby. And pregnant teens when are you due??

Reply:i got preg. at 16 had her at 17 and am now 18 with a 6 month old daughter and her dad left the second i told him i was preg. ....yes it is going to be hard and you will have to make some major sacrifices... i used to go out and party with my friends...go out to the movies and shopping all the time etc... and now really my life consists of going to school and coming home to her... luckily its my senior year...and i have amazing parents (my mom keeps her during the day) and they are definitely helping financially so that i have a better chance of graduating....but as soon as these 30 days of school are up i have a job waiting for me... i do take up some side jobs from time to time when the company needs the extra hand and i do that on weekends making $10 an hour....but trust me..with the right support and determination you can do it... you have a long hall ahead of you but congrats it is a miracle....

i had my son at 17 im 18 now and he is 8 months,right now im not in school i decided to take a little time off to be with my son,but im going to go back in the fall,i have a great family who is there for me and helps me so much with my son if i didnt have them it would be really hard!!!

EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. - Two Illinois teens face up to 20 years in prison for the fatal beating of a homeless man over a can of beer.
Seventeen-year-old Joseph Raines and 18-year-old Brandon Bouck pleaded guilty Thursday to second-degree murder. In exchange, prosecutors dropped first-degree murder charges.
Prosecutor Susan Jensen says testimony would have shown that the Granite City teens told a friend they punched and kicked Thomas Muffler last October.
Jensen says Muffler had refused to buy the teens beer. After the beating, the teens stole a 24-ounce can of beer from Muffler.
Authorities say Muffler suffered broken ribs that penetrated a lung.
A sentencing date hasn't been scheduled.

8 teens being tried as adults whats your take?
The 8 teens that beat up the 16 year old are being tried as adults. I completely agree with this. The parents however of the 8 teens think the judge is blowing it way out of porportion by trying them as adults. They say what there kids did is basically child and teen mentality My theory is if 8 teens can get together and plan to kidnapp and visously attack and tape a 16 year old getting beat up, then that right there adult mentality and a good reason for them to be tried and charged as adults.

There's nothing in the world that she could have done to this group of people that was bad enough to warrant that.
If tried as juveniles, they get a slap on the wrist and their records are cleared when they turn 18. Where is the justice in that?! What about the young lady who will have to live with hearing and vision damage for the rest of her life? People who argue that "they're just teens" make me sick. They also didn't think about the consequences like so many others haven't %26amp; have shown no remorse.

Reply:OK, I agree that they should go to jail, be tried as adults.. what have you, like everyone else, that video discusses me too, HOWEVER....My 18 year old nephew AND his girlfriend were SET UP and attacked by 12 boys, ages 16-20, (some initiation thing- pre planned when she called them and wanted them to meet her boyfriend), 2 blacks, and 10 whites, hit him with shovels, bats, and broke bottles on him, and one guy held a knife to his throat, cut it slightly, and asked if he was ready to die.... she grabbed the knife(getting cut too) and threw it in to the woods...was screaming for them to stop and got ontop of him to protect him, so they beat her too, 30 mins or more, this went on and none of the 16 people there tried to stop it. And they were her "friends" from her ex- school...she was introducing him to her friends and they were having a party.... when he arrived they all met him and shook hands. (There were a few of her girl friends there, but this was the next town over) Then as they were walking to the back yard by the bon fire, boom, the attack started, blindsided him, and took him over...Needless to say, they escaped, being chased, but got away,went to the police station then the hospital where he had stitches and bruises and a broke rib from them all kicking him.. No video though. This was 6 months ago... NO ARRESTS have been made, even though the cops have the names and addresses of these boys..pictures of the injuries. NO ONE is in jail for this! Their (16 people)word against 2! She even called the city hall and threatened to go to the paper about it... but still... nothing! These boys he'd never met, and he's a nice kid. BUT... He is NOT traumatized by this, as he has fought with kids before, (He's not a fighter, but here, boys that age do get into fights, especially if someone does one of their friends wrong, steal girlfriends, what have you... it happens EVERYWHERE and has since I was in school 20 years ago.... I have seen fights when I was in school, it is not uncommon at all! They are pissed and yes, those boys are now scared... (He has an older brother and LOTS of friends..who have scared the crap put of these boys.... But no arrests made to date.... I feel sorry for Victoria, SHe was just lucky they did tape it!
But I believe the trauma won't come from the fighting, but from the video and the fact that EVERYONE saw it...... I think she will be fine, she has support from all over the world, check out her myspace pages,,,, she actually is benefiting from this. BUT I do agree, those girls should pay dearly!

Think about the controversies over teaching sex ed. to kids in high school? I think high school kids should have the kiddy gloves taken off. If you commit an adult crime face the adult punishment.

Teens getting high off Trileptal and Vicodin?
I've heard of teen (and others, but mostly teens) getting high on cold medicine containing Dextromethorphan. I've heard from from some people that Trileptal and Vicoden (not together) are also used. Has anyone heard about this? How do those drugs affect you if at all? Thanks for all your help, I'm writing a paper on the subject and appreciate all help I can get. These are only things I have heard from friends, and I'm not sure if there even being used. The only one I know for sure is Dextromethorphan. Any others and any information about them would be great. I need quite a bit more information about teens and over the counter medicines and only have one drug I've heard about. Thanks!

Have you considered making a web site thru one of those free webhosting services, like tripod? And then make pamphlets %26amp; post them around schools %26amp; community centers. Start a casual support group that meets for coffee or something once or twice a month. You have a wonderful idea here, I wish I had someone like you around when I was going thru everthing as a pre-teen or a teenager. It would have helped a lot to have other kids around my age, who were going thu the same thing as I was to talk to %26amp; just vent my feelings now %26amp; then!

Teens' responsibility for Driving?
Teen's make up 15% of the accidents on the roads these days (data provided by a government site). The other 85% therefore can be contibuted to drunk drivers and people with bad habits and *gasp* actual accidents. So why do I hear all the time how teens are blaimed for this and all the rules they're making to limit teens activities on the road. Why do we make cars so idiot proof yet cannot deal with the idiots themselves? Why does America focus on teenagers so much? Any one driving in the Bay Area of California or any other agressive place are welcome to explain it to me.

I'm just guessing here - you are a teenager. It may seem that everyone, or as you state "America" is focusing on teens and putting the screws to you and restricting what you would prefer or desire to do. This is not the case. You may be an exception, but you need to get over the fact that you are young and have to accept being classified as such. Okay, this isn't so much of a question as just a general comment. Is it just me, or is there WAY too many questions on here about being pregnant at an early age? "My gf might be pregnant what do I do?" or "My bf and I had sex an hour ago, I think I might be pregnant?" Seriously, do kids REALLY not get it? If you are a teen and think you might be pregnant or think you got someone pregnant and are worried about it, STOP HAVING SEX. Why the fuss anyway? How great can sex be when it's with a 15 year old that "everyone's doing it" Seriously? A 15 yr old with "all the right moves" Come on! i go on myspace without my parents permission, im old enough to choose wheither or not i have 1. my parents are trusting of me and i havent given them a reason not to. i have 1 to keep in touch with friends, i dont use to to have "serious relationships" yes there are disgusting men who do masterbate to pictures of girls in bikinis but that girl chose to put that pic up of herself, its asking for it. i find cute pics of things that dont have my face on them. ppl, if u dont want a perv to masterbate to ur pics make ur profile private and dont put picture of ur half naked body online. easy, done.

Home for pregnant teens?
Does anyone know what would be the best way to find pregnant teens in need of a place to live? Im in Oregon and I take in one pregnant teen at a time and provide her and her baby with free long term room (her own room/nursery), board, guidance, medical insurance, transportation, and everything else. I also involve her in teen parenting groups, provide free child care while she goes to school, and counseling if needed. She gets one on one help.
I believe this is better for some, rather than a group home. My last mom just got her first apartment and Im have trouble filling her spot. Also I do this all out of my own pocket, I was a teen mom and I enjoy helping other teen moms.

Why are teens so violent?
And the parent sometimes get a kick out of it. I have seen numerous reports of a group of teens beating on one teen. In one incident there were two teens fight on the bus and the bus driver pulled the bus over to a school bus stop and did nothing. The teen who started the fight was getting her *** wiped. A parent got on the bus and saw that her daughter was getting her *** wiped. So, instead of her stopping the fight she got in the fight and start beating the other teen. And told her daughter now that how you do it. Now, since it was recorded the parent is serving time in jail. What is wrong with these so called parents? Do they think at all? Do they think they are invincible?

Parents who took no time to let them know how to appropriately handle themselves in all situations most likely don't handle things well themselves and react out of anger. I think the teenager should have served jail time right along with the parent. These so called parents were never ready to have children to begin with and still act like children themselves.

has your teen ever told you she or he had been taken advantage of and if so what did you do? teen rape is swept under carpet because they are teens or is it because of lack of evidence? I mean teens can rape teens right? when does it become a problem and how do parents deal with it? I know the teens have hotlines to talk about it but what about the parents? I am so angry. Question for teens: does it suck being your age?
My teen years were atypical for various reasons, so I only know what it is like to be a typical American teen through observation. (I'm 30 now, and much happier than I was then.) Most of the teens in this forum, especially teen girls, seem very unhappy. Ironically, teen girls are seen as the physical/sexual ideal by most men (where as guys are usually seen as "ideal" in their 20s), yet I see many girls here thinking they have to do something extraordinary (changing appearance, personality, etc.) to get just one good date. I suppose it doesn't matter if you're sitting on a ton of gold bricks if you, yourself, believe they are lead.

i was a teen babysitting...my own sibblings. i was forced to watch my baby sister every day (even weekends) without being paid, and i never got to go out with my friends. i wouldnt mind babysitting if it wasnt so that my mom could go to bars and to her friends houses. what is your opnion on teens being responsible for their younger sibblings when its not really their responsibility?
my opnion, parents make their teens take responsiblity for their babies but dont want teens to have children of their own even after they have reassured them that they are capable of taking care of one. I hated my mother for making my spend my entire teen years at home babysitting, even after i got my car (that my boyfriend {now husband} bought me, not my parents) she wouldnt let me take my sister to the movies, the park, or anywhere for that matter. now that im out of the house and on my own she has actually made my brothers girlfriend babysit or she threatened to turn her in for having sex with my bro.

I dont think its appropriate for a parent to make a child watch their siblings ALL the time, if its just so the parent can go out and have fun. It is important for an adult to get away from the everyday stresses of life once in a while, and I dont think its too much to ask for the oldest to watch the others for a little while, if they are responsible enough, and are rewarded in some way for it (money, priveleges, etc.) But it sounds to me like your mom was using you, from the information you gave. I DO know how you feel. My parents had to work a lot. I was NOT the oldest child, I had 2 older brothers still at home, and a younger brother. Even though there were older brothers, I was the one who had to watch my little brother for 3-4 days a week, as soon as I got home from school, until midnite or later. My older bros got out of it because they had "sports" and were in "bands". Plus, I was more responsible. My little brother had a lot of anger and emotional problems and was extremely difficult to deal with. However, my parents needed me because they were working and trying to support a total of 6 of us kids, AND my grandparents. I was really bitter for a long time, and jealous that my brothers got to be normal teenagers, and I had to be the 3rd parent in the family. I did all the housework for all the people in the house (there were times that there were 9 of us in the house). I also had to help with the rebuilding of our house. We had to gut the entire thing and remodel it one room at a time. I had to do just as much work as the boys did, in addition to the house cleaning and babysitting. I had to live in the laundry room for 3 years until my bedroom was finally finished, and even then I had to share it with my little brother who is 8 years younger. Like I said, I was pretty bitter for a while. Then I realized something. I could either hold on to my anger, and let it drag me down in life, ORRR... I could take some valuable lessons from the experience and grow to be a stronger, responsible adult. I recommend that you take a long hard look at your options too. What your mom did may have been wrong, but you can learn from her example, and know what kind of parent you DONT want to be. Today, I am proud to say that while my peers are partying, skipping college classes, or having kids that they dont take care of, I am a 21 year old happily married mother of a 2 year old little girl. I own a home business to bring in extra money while still being able to stay at home and raise my own child. I am happier and more succesful at my age than I ever thought I could be, simply because I decided to learn from my own mistakes and the mistakes of others, instead letting them drag me down and use them as an excuse to be miserable. Your life is in your hands. Yeah, your teenage-hood sucked, but because you have experienced that, you can make your adult-hood an incredible time. Your life is in your hands, and while some of these people may feel sorry for you, I dont feel sorry for you at all. You have the chance to let this make you stronger. Take it.

Reply:I was in the same boat as you from the time i was 8, my mother left my father and was left raising us alone so she had to work all the time double shifts everyday ect and I got stuck taking care of my two younger brothers who are now 17 and 15. I am now 20.
Anyways i could not go out with my friends or anything for that matter because i had to be home to watch them.I was doing what my mother should have been doing helping with homework, cooking dinner, cleaning the house, putting them to bed, getting them up for school ect it was hard and i despised my mother because i didn't have real teenage experience so for that i left my mothers house when i was 16 and never went back. I started working when i was 16 to pay my own bills and got kicked out of school because i never went due to work.

Reply:i'm 16, and i believe that if your parents once in a while need someone to watch your younger siblings you should do it without complaining. however if it becomes a regular thing, or if it starts to interfere with your life too much i think some kind of compensation is fair. for example i have my license and my parents make me take my little sisters to school or a doctors appt or whatever. they then pay for the gas since i am spending more time doing favors for them than driving myself somewhere. your mom sounds pretty manipulative to me, seeing as she punished the girl by making her babysit when your brother is the older one and should take responsibility. granted, it is illegal and unhealthy for there to be such an age difference but it is unfair for your mother to use it to her advantage.

Personally, i consider myself very lucky as my mum says she will never get me to look after my little sister unless i want to or if it's a complete emergency. I am 14 and my sister is 11, and even still my mum says i never HAVE TO look after if i don't want to. She leaves it completely up to me which i respect because as she is asking, i think well - i suppose i could as she hasn't forced it upon me.

I'm 19 years old, and I've been watching the news a lot lately, and I have to say I am shocked at how ridiculous the teens of today are. The Polk County Girlfight (more like brutal beating), the three 15-year-old-girls who beat the 12-year-old in NY, crazy teen actions over spring break vacations, the list just goes on.
These news stories are ruining the respect people have for teens in America.
Are there any teens that have a good head on there shoulders anymore? Like I said I am 19, I don't drink, I don't do drugs, I'm in college going for my Doctorate's in English, I love my family, I would never hurt anyone. Are there any teens that are the same?

Good teenagers are never in the news, all you see are the horrible cases . . .
I'm sixteen, I don't drink, I don't do drugs, I don't party, I don't fight. My friends and I are in AP classes where we do well and we spend most of our time studying or just talking instead of doing the bad things you see in the news. We all plan on graduating and going to college. I wish that good teenagers were displayed in the news so that adults don't think that all teens are bad. Many teenagers respect themselves and deserve the respect of their peers as well as the respect of adults.

Reply:sure there are(they can be of any social class). I was one of the teens that did not do drugs, was not on alcohol. Not to say I was completely innocent, however, compared to some of the kids I grew up with(upper middle class and upper class) I ahve more common sense. You are doing a good job, by not doing any of this stuff and that you are staying in school. Keep at that.
Reply:Teenagers are upstanding, productive members of society. They are denied basic human rights by the government, yet they still do what's right most of the time. Needless to say, the media needs some group to villify, and because blacks and women are out, it's now teenagers.

Reply:Theres some good ones out there. But everyday the teens out there are just getting worse. Some of it comes from the media. Like the whole thing of how music is part of the reason teens know more obscene language and about the "dirty sex talk". Congrats and keep up the good work on being a good teen though!

I noticed most of the people my age like friends better than family too. I think, out of all things, teens should have a strong sense of family. I love my family more than anything, because I know they'll always be there for me. Friends will only be there for so long.
Not all teens are like what the media protrays them to be. I think the media is something which fuels stereotypes. They just don't show the whole story anymore.
My dad tells his peers about me all the time and offers for me to meet them. As soon as he tells them I'm sixteen, they often refuse. When I was ten, this never happened. This hurts me.
I love science and technology. I want to protect my nation and all those who are close to me. I have a strong sense of loyalty.
I hope to work at NASA or Google when I have the expertise.

Reply:I know what you mean, i personally lead a very sheltered life away from the hardships that a lot of people have endure while they are growing up, but on the other hand i really don't think it is a class thing, all the bits you hear in the news about the drink, drugs and fighting of teenagers is obviously very bad but as someone said people who have had a privileged background are except from this behavior because they have had an easy life. Don't get me wrong i do no deny that being looked after loved and having a good education is not an easy life , but i also think that the whole drink an drugs thing happens whoever you are and does not matter who you are with, the amount of times my brother (at boarding school)had internal suspensions and gatings from his house master for drinking and smoking, i don't think that i could count on two hands, i think in today's culture you just have to make sure that you do not fall into that trap.

all of my friends are either poor, have a broken home, alchoholics/drug addicts for parents, or get abused. when you go though that everyday its a bit difficult not to drink and do drugs. especially when you know your not gonna go anywhere in life and end up working at mcdonalds for 30 years.
thats why we all get into fights, sell/do drugs, smoke, drink, have sex, break the law, and party it up cause were just so pissed off at the world for giving us this **** life we need an escape from it all.

Reply:I COMPLETELY agree with you. I am currently 14 years old, and stuck in the midst of fellow teenagers. I've heard so many things that just make me sick to think about. One day, a couple of girls and I were sitting in a group durin gym one day, and one girl asked the other "have you ever given your boyfriend head?" and the girl proudly responded "in fact I've gone much further than that..." I sat there, smiling to myself, feeling the saddest feeling I can feel. I mean.... 14 years old and doing these things. It's just crazy how the world in general is these days. We're in the 21st century with a new era of advances in technology, new medical achievements, miraculous tales of wonder, and yet there are still genocides taking place. Only 60 miles away from Darfur, there are civilized towns full of materialized people who disregard the crisis going on in their own country...
But now I'm veering off topic. I had gotten myself in some very close calls in my earliest years of entering adolescence, but I had managed to pull myself from the waters and see the mistakes in my actions. I have learned from other's mistakes as well and continue to thrive with my new aptitude and knowledge. There are copious things in the world that we cannot change, but it all comes down to how these teens were taught and if they truly understand that there is a world much, much larger than them.
I am 14 years old, but I've been through quite alot for my age. I have peers and adults alike telling me that I am much too mature for my age. I don't drink, i don't do drugs, and I am planning to pursue a career in law, medicine, or something amazing... like being a mother someday with a loving husband. I do plan to take courses to have a Doctorate's in English as well, if I have the time, money, and patience 4 years from now, since English is one of my dominant subjects. I am currently taking one advanced class, and next year I will be taking 3 honors classes and starting to find a low pay job to save up for support in my college years.
But enough ranting, hmm? Let's just say I completely agree with you. And I am definantly the same! :D

newspapers and magazines show negative teen stories because it attracts more people to buy the publication.

In the paper around here there is a fourteen-year-old girl is helping coach a soccer team for children with mental disabilities of her own free will. Does that sound like a horrible teenager to you? There are teenager holding an art auction (the art is also made by high school students) for fund-raising for kids in Africa, I think. Well, someplace in the world. I almost submitted one of my drawings but I couldn't finish it on time :0( They always put the bad stuff on the news and in newspapers, but hardly any of the good stuff, though they really should put more of the good stuff in. The news is giving teenagers a bad name. Most people I know of are more caring than that, not as stupid, and don't vandalize things or beat people up. I'm fourteen and my mom and I sponsor a kid in Ethiopia, I've never once littered on purpose in my whole life (that I can remember, anyway), I've never even had a boyfriend, never vandalized, never beat someone up, I hardly ever swear, well, as long as no one can hear or no one is there I don't, don't drink alcohol, party, etc. And it's not like I'm the only person at my school like that. People tend to be drawn towards the bad news rather than the good, so that's what people write about, because that's what gets more people to subscribe to them. You think that's creepy? A mass murderer lived ten minutes from my house, maybe less. I know the exact house he lived in. And no, it's not someone who murdered all of his victims before I was even alive, I mean someone who was killing people up until I was about seven or so years old. My dad and I used to go for bike rides past his place. He had a car with a boulder on top of it in his front yard, we couldn't figure out why someone had done that (this is before people knew he was a murderer), but now that I think about it he was probably hiding some bones or evidence in there. That's creepy. My neighbours daughter even went to a party at his house once. I can't give out too much information about him since I live so close, but he's suspected of killing something like sixty-five women.

The things we see on Tv are all ngative and hardly ever do we hear about the goods kids like us who try hard and excell without getting caught up in all the negatives. Reply:Hi I'm a 15 year old girl and I'm a varsity cheerleader who has a 3.95 GPA (unweighted) and I'm in two honors classes. Next year I'll be in the two honors classes and also two AP classes. I'm a year ahead in spanish and math. I've never touched a cigarette or drugs ever. I have to admit to SOME drinking in Mexico, but my parents have been there every time and its no where near being totally wasted or even drunk at all. I have also definitely had the opportunity for drugs and alcohol, considering one of my three best friends has shown up drunk to school dances and smokes weed. I also have a job and one of my 24 year old coworkers is border line alcoholic, if not alcoholic. I have been around some bad influences and I will admit that there are a lot of them out there, but I, like you, hope to change the American teen reputation to show that there are still "good girls". It sucks and its not fair.
